Scottsdale, AZ  85251
(480) 990-2777

Cynthia was a faculty member at the Desert Sun School from 1948 to 1952.  She recently sent in this message:

"Arrived summer of 1948 as Cynthia "Cynie" Clark recruited by Ana Mary to be a counselor along with B.J. Keisker, and Ellen Roebling.  I returned in '48 to teach at DSS, and except for summers of 1949 and 1952, counseled summers and taught rest of the year.  In '48-'49 lived in four-room shack with nine children and one high school helper; all the children between the ages of 3 and 10, anchored by the three Brutsche brothers -- Doug, Neal, and Billy.  Edie Elliott and I remained close friends and educational colleagues, and I was with her several times during her last year.  My brother, Sherman Clark, spent a winter at DSS helping with maintenance between high school and college, and one summer at the camp.  Ellin Roebling and I are the counselors who got nine girls (and ourselves) lost coming down from watching dawn over the desert on top of San Jacinto Mtn. and toward nightfall finally found the lower portion of the then all-dirt Banning Highway.  None of the nine girls ever have forgiven us for the difficulty of that trip!"
